When visiting the Tasman take time to explore national parks, meet local artists and savor local wines. Here are a few that we recommend.
Take a flightseeing trip
Take a helicopter flight over the three stunning national parks in Nelson Tasman. Enjoy the unique view of Rotomairewhenua, also known as the Blue Lake in Kahurangi National Park. The lake is know for having the clearest lake water in the world! Helicopters Nelson offer a variety of flights, including to the backcountry for trout fishing, wineries, or to see the locations used for filming Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Explore the Abel Tasman
Abel Tasman National park is situated near the top of the South Island. The sheltered bays of the park are perfect for sailing and sea kayaking which means there are opportunities to see seals and dolphins, who regularly play in these coastal waters. If you prefer to explore by land, the Abel Tasman coastal track follows the coastline. The track winds through native bush, beside limestone cliffs and along golden beaches. It is only a 40 minute drive to Kaiteriteri from Tasman Hill Lodge.
Wineries in Nelson Tasman region
Tasman wines are internationally acclaimed for their high quality wines and stand apart from the typical commercial styles.
Benefiting from a sunny, maritime climate, the picturesque valley vineyards of Moutere Hills yield some of New Zealand’s most freshly scented, intensely flavored Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Because of this, Moutere Hills Vineyard and Neudorf Vineyards are two of my favorites.
